Peoples Democratic Party Alleges Plot to Sideline Party in 2027

The South East leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the federal government of orchestrating the party’s internal crisis to prevent it from contesting the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Abia State PDP Caretaker Committee in Enugu, the party’s South East Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa, alleged that the disputes within the PDP were part of a deliberate strategy by the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to weaken the opposition.
Odefa maintained that the challenges facing the party were not coincidental but the work of “anti-PDP agents” determined to undermine its growth and participation in the next elections. He urged members to remain steadfast despite the turbulence.
According to him, the judiciary would ultimately resolve the crisis in the party’s favour. He expressed confidence in the courts, noting that the Appeal Court had recently consolidated all related appeals and that the PDP expected a favourable ruling.
Call for Unity in Abia
Odefa also charged members of the newly inaugurated Abia State Caretaker Committee to focus on rebuilding and uniting the party at the state level. He described the task ahead as challenging but achievable with dedication and loyalty.
In his remarks, the committee’s chairman, Ikegbu Emeka, described the assignment as critical to the party’s future. He acknowledged the PDP’s recent struggles but said the time had come for reconciliation and repositioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
Emeka called on aggrieved members to set aside differences and work together to strengthen the party in Abia State.
Other members of the caretaker committee include Felix Nwagbara as Secretary, alongside Chief Fidel Chukwuemeka, Engr Gladys Okoro, Chief Chijindu Kalu, Kelvin Enyi, Mrs Ugo Kalu, Barr Obinna Nwaogwugwu and Samuel Chukwudi Mike. The party’s South East Zonal Secretary, Chief James Ugwu, was also present at the event.
The PDP has faced internal divisions in recent months, with ongoing legal battles expected to shape its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
