Benue Police Command last Friday arraigned two suspects Iveren Mom and John Gwajime both of Makurdi town before a Makurdi chief magistrate court over charges of criminal conspiracy and advance fee fraud also known as ‘419’.
When the case came up for mention, prosecuting police officer Inspector Omaye Ojata informed the court that a business women Mrs Hajia Sale of No. 22 Obudu Road Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State had in March this year transferred the sum of 4.5 million naira into an Access Bank Account belonging to the first accused Iveren Mom, who promised to help her get new naira notes during the currency redesigning Programme in the country.
Prosecution further told the court that the accused instead of fulfilling their promise conspired and fraudulently converted the said amount of 4.5 million naira to their private use.
During police investigation the two accused persons were arrested while the third suspect Teryima Dada who was also with them is still at large.
Prosecution equally argued that the accused be remanded at the correctional center Makurdi on the ground that investigation was still in progress so the accused could temper with investigation and asked for adjournment.
The trial magistrate who refused to grant plea of the accused for want of jurisdiction in his ruling granted bail to the accused at the sum of one million naira each and adjourned the case to October 10 for further mention.
