The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has conducted a raid on criminal hideouts along the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis, resulting in the arrest of 307 suspects. The Commissioner of Police (CP) for the FCT, Mr. Benneth Igweh, led the tactical team on the operation, part of the newly-inaugurated “Operation Velvet” targeting marked black spots in the territory.
The suspects, consisting of 293 males and 14 females, were apprehended at a marked black spot known as “Gidan Dambe” in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis. This location is identified as a meeting point for kidnappers from various communities. During the operation, the police recovered an English Pistol with 15 rounds of live ammunition from one suspect claiming to be a Department of State Services (DSS) personnel.
Various items were confiscated from the suspects, including pistols, motorcycles, drugs, suspected to be Indian hemp, and other dangerous weapons. Additionally, stolen valuables believed to have been taken from innocent residents were recovered. The CP emphasized that the arrested individuals would undergo screening and investigation before being charged to court.
Commissioner Igweh warned against operating illegal establishments like “Gidan Dambe” in the FCT, urging individuals involved to cease harboring criminals or face legal consequences.
