The House of Representatives has expressed its heartfelt congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for securing the silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, marking their fifth such achievement.
Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson for the house, released a statement on Monday, praising the players and coaching staff for their remarkable performance in Cote d’Ivoire.
Rotimi, who represents the APC-Ekiti State, highlighted the lawmakers’ joy in the team’s captain, William Ekong, who was honored as the ‘Man of the Competition.’
“While the Super Eagles narrowly missed securing the AFCON trophy, their performance at the tournament showcased their deserving victory. They have once again demonstrated that Nigeria stands tall as the giant of Africa in sports and various other pursuits,” remarked Rotimi.
He acknowledged the unity displayed by Nigerians during the tournament, stating, “Nigerians are proud of you.”
Rotimi emphasized that the Super Eagles’ accomplishment would not only motivate numerous sports talents across the nation but also inspire individuals in other fields to contribute more to the nation.
The Speaker, Abbas, reiterated the commitment of the house, under his leadership, to support initiatives and policies fostering sports and youth development.
It is noted that the Super Eagles experienced a tense 2-1 defeat to the Ivory Coast’s Elephants, who were the host nation, in the highly anticipated final match.
