Sokoto Govt Treats 20 Mentally Retarded Persons

As part of its numerous support services to the less privileged, the Sokoto State government has sponsored the treatment of 20 mentally retarded persons at the Federal Neuro-psychiatric Hospital, Kware at a cost of N3 million.
The Commissioner of Social Welfare and Culture, Alhaji Surajo Marafa Gatawa, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on two years in office of the Tambuwal administration, said that his ministry early this year took over the payment of monthly allowances totalling N45, 863,000 to 6,979 disabled persons in the twenty-three local government areas at the rate of N6,500.00 per person.
According to him, the governor has approved N88 million for the upcoming Ramadan and Eid -El Fitr celebration to cater for the less privileged persons.
He stated that N1,036,200 was spent on the provision of clothing to inmates of orphanages and children homes during last year’s Eid-EL Fitr.
Similarly, the ministry spent N1,710,000.00 in catering for the marriage expenses of two grown-up orphans last year.
