The Federal High Court sitting in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, has Ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a fresh primary election for Nomination of her Candidate for Member House of Representatives, for Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency.
Ruling in on a matter brought before him by an agrieved aspirant in the last elections, Dr Midala Usman Balami, Hon. Justice Jude Dagat held that the primaries conducted in Biu Local Government Area and not Azare or Askira the constituency headquarters of Askira-Uba/Hawul was null, void and in breach of the PDP constitution.
The presiding judge who granted all reliefs sought by the plaintiff noted that, the party constitution prescribes the holding of it’s primary elections within the particular Constituency, and to do otherwise, violates the stipulation.
In their reactions to the Judgment, Counsels to Balami, the Claimant, Gbenga Ayoola and Ibrahim Ngadda stated that the decision was consistent with the PDP’s grand norms, and an assurance to the common man that, the rule of law prevails, just as it gives hope for the survival of democracy.
