Ayomiposi Esan, a 17-year-old, reportedly took three mobile phones, two generator sets, a sound system, and a Toyota Corolla belonging to his parents, Mr Oluwafemi and Mrs Tosin, from their residence in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government, Ogun State. After ensuring his parents were locked inside their home on September 3, 2023, he fled with the stolen items.
While the couple slept, Ayomiposi entered the house. An anonymous local source shared that community members assisted in releasing the trapped parents after Ayomiposi’s escape.
Following the incident report, Superintendent Awode Olatunde from the Ogijo Divisional Police pursued and arrested Ayomiposi in Lagos, as he attempted to sell the stolen goods. Though he successfully sold one generator, his father has been against the idea of prosecuting him.
State Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the police’s plan to charge Ayomiposi was interrupted by his father’s refusal. Respecting the family’s wishes and in the name of community policing, Ayomiposi was released on bond. However, he received counseling and a strong advisory against any future misconduct.
