Tinubu Donates Salaries to Armed Forces, Launches Support Fund at 74
Fabian
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of a special fund to support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including injured personnel and the families of fallen soldiers, as he marked his 74th birthday.
In a statement released on Sunday, the President said he had directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to open a dedicated account for the initiative.
Marking the occasion, Tinubu paid tribute to military personnel, describing them as courageous defenders of the nation. He explained that the fund would provide assistance to those wounded in active service as well as dependents of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
As part of his personal contribution, the President pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the scheme, noting that the gesture would complement existing welfare and insurance arrangements for military personnel.
Tinubu also called on governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the initiative. He assured that details of the fund’s account would be made public soon.
Emphasising the importance of honouring the sacrifices of service members, he said the initiative was a matter of responsibility rather than charity, stressing that the nation must continue to support those who risk their lives for its security.
The President also reiterated his decision to mark his 74th birthday quietly, citing the current national challenges. He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their prayers, goodwill, and continued support, noting that such encouragement strengthens his administration.
