Vandals Destroy Electricity Towers Along Shiroro-Kaduna Lines, Triggering Blackouts

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported the vandalism of two towers along its critical 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines, causing power outages in Kano and Kaduna states. The towers, identified as T133 and T136, were severely damaged, prompting the deployment of TCN’s newly acquired emergency restoration system while permanent repairs are being arranged.

The incident was reported by TCN’s Shiroro Regional Office, and while no direct link to banditry was confirmed, the region’s recent security challenges, including the killing of 13 farmers in Shiroro, raise suspicions of bandit involvement. The damage initially tripped one transmission line, followed quickly by the second, causing widespread blackouts.

TCN is currently implementing temporary power supply through the 330kV Kaduna–Jos transmission line and is working closely with security operatives to safeguard installations in the area.
