World Athletics clarified that Tobi Amusan, the women’s 100m hurdles world champion and record holder, hasn’t been given approval to compete in the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. This comes amidst circulating reports claiming the Nigerian athlete had received clearance.

Last month, Amusan faced a provisional suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) due to missing three whereabouts tests. Nicole Jeffery, Head of Communications for World Athletics, stated that the reports suggesting Amusan’s clearance were incorrect, emphasizing that a decision hasn’t been reached. Once a decision is made, it will be officially announced by the AIU.

While Amusan appears on the World Athletics entry list as part of Team Nigeria, her participation depends on the AIU’s clearance. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria is anticipating a decision before the championships begin.

Tobi Amusan notably set a world record time at the championships last year in Oregon, USA, and has been in exceptional form leading up to her suspension, achieving a season’s best at the Silesia Diamond League meeting in Poland.
