Renowned Nigerian musician, Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has opened up about his decision to pursue a career in politics alongside his role as a pastor.
During a recent interview with BBC, the multi-talented artist, who now combines his roles as a pastor and politician, explained that he embarked on this journey to demonstrate that individuals with good intentions can serve the public and participate in government.
In response to the tragic passing of the Afrobeat sensation, Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, famously known as Mohbad, Banky W called for a thorough investigation to uncover the true cause of the singer’s demise.
Regarding the recent ruling by the National Assembly petitions tribunal that called for a supplementary election for the House of Representatives seat in Eti Osa local government area, Banky W expressed his belief in the possibility of securing victory in the position.
It’s worth noting that in the 2023 general elections earlier this year, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Thaddeus Attah, the Labour Party candidate, as the winner of the seat, while Banky W, running as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, secured the second position in the polls.
