The Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has sought for improved support for persons of concern in society to give them sense of belonging.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim made this call on Friday in Abuja to commemorate the 2022 World Humanitarian Day.
She also felicitated the members of staff of the commission and developmental partners for their services to humanity.
According to her, all humanitarian workers deserve commendation for their dedication, discipline and diligence to duties in robustly scaling up humanitarian responses at different levels.
She also called for leaders and policy makers at all levels to pay attention to inequalities that result from displacement, saying that they were major drivers of insecurity and other socio- economic problems.
She said: “While addressing root causes of global humanitarian crisis, there is a crucial need to address the consequences with a developmental focal lens”.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim said that within the context of global perspectives, humanitarian workers and policy makers must be strong advocates of safe, orderly and regular migration for effective development.
She thanked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, for her commitment in ensuring great synergy and coordination of the humanitarian sector.
She also highlighted President Muhammadu Buhari’ s resolve and sincerity of purpose toward providing succor for the vulnerable and ensuring they built back better.
“The President equally gave persons of concern a sense of belonging and they are able to contribute meaningfully to the society”.
The day is celebrated on every Aug. 19 to shine a light on the hundreds of thousands of volunteers, professionals and crisis-affected people who deliver urgent health care, shelter, food, protection, water and much more.
