Yobe APC Primaries: Bomoi Poise To Battle Buni

BY Ali Musa DAMATURU

Barely 72 hours after the outgoing governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam nominated, Mai Mala Buni to succeed him, another aspirant, Ibrahim Bomoi opened a campaign office to slug it out with him.

Buni is the current National Secretary of the Ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

As it is, Gaidam insisted that he didn’t impose any Candidate on the Yobeans, especially who fit to succeed him in 2019, but the decision to select Buni was masterminded after a stakeholders meeting last week in Damaturu.

Mr Bomoi who opened his campaign office less then one kilometer to the government house, stormed Damaturu on Sunday evening with hundreds of supporters that took over the major street.

While inaugurating the office along maiduguri road, the aspirant said he was not discouraged to contest even when the governor has anointed the National secretary, who hails from same zone with the incumbent governor.

“We have opened the Yobe south offices in Potiskum, Yobe east in Damaturu and we will soon inaugurate that of Yobe North in Gashua”, he said.

Alhaji Usman Sale Jauro, Zone B campaign leader of Ibrahim Bomoi, lamented that the Gaidam’s decision to anoint Buni had exposed his injustice and selfish agenda to continue ruling the state.

“Since the creation of Yobe state, all the elected governors were from Yobe east senatorial zone, except late Mamman Ali who spent only 18 months out of the 22 years the Democratic governors had led.

“Also, all the ministerial, ambassadorial and party appointments for the state were occupied by people from Yobe East. For this reason, we the people of Yobe south with strong agreement with party faithfuls from Yobe north are solely behind Bomoi’s aspiration”, he said.

When asked of their chances to defeat the anointed candidate who has the support of the incumbent governor and party stakeholders in the state, he said, “Only God gives power to whom He wishes. We are confident that God will allow the oppressed to prevail”. End
