Two security guards were on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a generator worth N245,000.
The police charged Patrick Eichie, 54, and Tosin Oguntade, 27, whose addresses were not provided with conspiracy, theft and negligence of duty.
They pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Kenrich Nomayo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 7 at about 9 p.m. at the Ogba Shopping Arcade, Ikeja.
Nomayo said that the defendants conspired and stole a 8.1KVA Thermocool generator worth N245, 000 property of Mr Arnest Mbanefo.
The defendants who were security guards while on duty failed to prevent the theft of the generator.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 411, 287 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Our correspondent reports that Section 278 of the criminal law prescribes three years’ imprisonment for stealing.
Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Adeola admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Adeola adjourned the case until Oct. 27 for mention.
