2019: Moshood Mustatapha Declares Governorship Ambition

By Steve Oni, Ilorin

Honourable Moshood Mustapha has declared his intention to vie for the Kwara state governorship slot in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Declaring his ambition on Monday in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, Muatapha said the decision was taken after due consideration of the plethora of challenges confronting the state, as well as consultations with key stakeholders of the APC in the state.

The governorship aspirant, who promised to make human capital development the fulcrum of his administration if given the mandate by his party and he eventually gets the people’s mandate in the 2019 election, lamented that the people of the state are wallowing in abject poverty, while the disparity between the rich and the poor is getting wider.

He said: “Our children no longer have access to quality education due to the infrastructural decadence in our schools, facilities are in a deplorable condition; our youths are roaming around due to unemployment.

“Our healthcare facilities are in a deplorable condition; businesses are shutting down due to high taxes and lack of patronage.

“We cannot continue to tow this path, Kwarans deserve better and prosperity will judge us if we fail to make amends.”

Mustapha appealed to the leadership of the party to give every aspirant a level playing ground so as to achieve a rancour free primary election.

He said: “We have come a long way in our struggle to liberate Kwara and now that victory is close, we must unite and rise above politics of bitterness so that our efforts will not be in vain

“It is a truism that there are several aspirants in the APC in Kwara state, an indication that we have enough capable hands to pilot the affairs of our state.

“Therefore, I implore the leadership of our party to give room for internal democracy within our party. Every aspirant should be given a level playing ground so as to give room for a rancour free primary election.

“Whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer should bear in mind that there is no victor nor vanquished, we have a common goal and we must unite to make our goal a reality.”
