In the face of periodic altercations on television and radio amongst followers of the leading Presidential candidates of the parties, Nigerians have been demanding for more dignified approaches and issue based campaign.
The main gladiators do not seem to be backing down, even after the signing of the National Peace Accord by all the political parties.
While their supporters continue to bickering, the candidates seem set to sell their programmes to Nigerians ahead of the 2023 elections.
And barely two weeks with the lifting of political campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, leading candidates for the elections have been trying to unfold their manifestos for the country.
The main opposition part, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, penultimate week released the manifesto of it’s Presidential standard, Atiku Abubakar, while the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi released his plans for the nation if elected at an elaborate programme last Friday.
Both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi promised to overhaul the country’s security architecture and to restructure the country, in such a way that it will reflect the true nature of Nigerias diversity.
Atiku and Obi promised to push for an economy my that will be private structure driven, even as both promise to reverse negative economic trends that could bail Nigeria out of recession.
With the promise to remove subsidy on petroleum, the two leaders however promise to give the programme a human face, such that Nigerians will not suffer too much.
While Peter Obis followers have been holding rallies in strategic cuties across the country, the PDP standard bearer,Atiku Abubakar has gone released a timetable for nationwide tour, beginning from Monday in Akwa Ibom state.
Thes developments are coming at a time the APC candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made a sudden appearance from his holiday in the United Kingdom, and is expected to equally swing into action, with a view to making up for his brief sbs nice.
Our correspondents report that the APC strongman has been holding discussions with key stakeholders in an effort to address internal wranglings and to foster a common from fir the campaigns.
Festus Keyamo, spokesman for the Tinubu/Shettima campaign council told NationalTrail that, Tinubu’s Return has vindicated his position that his principal is well and will be returning very soon to take charge.
He challenged opposition parties and critics to stop being mischievous in their criticisms of the APC and focus on issues, stressing that the party is united and will soon roll out her own manifesto, which will be plac d before Nigerians.
He had earlier told newsmen that the APC will anchor it’s campaigns on a tripod, to wit: the achievements of the Buhari led Government, Bola Tinubu’s performance in Lagos and Kashim Shettima’s scorecard in Borno amongst others.
As await the manifestos of other parties, the expectations are that further discourse will address issues in such manifestos, away from the personality attacks and other mundane profiling of eachother by their followers.
