2027: APC Explains Changes to Final National Assembly Candidates’ List

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has explained why some aspirants who were initially declared winners during its National Assembly primary elections were later replaced on the party’s final list of candidates.

According to the party, the changes followed a comprehensive review of more than 700 petitions submitted by aggrieved aspirants after the primaries.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this in a telephone interview, stating that the petitions were examined by the party’s appeal committee before the National Working Committee (NWC) took final decisions.

“For those who were aggrieved, we took our time to conduct a very thorough review of all the petitions received after the primaries. There were over 700 petitions, and each was properly vetted,” Morka said.

He explained that while some petitions were upheld, leading to adjustments in the outcome of primaries in certain constituencies, others were dismissed, allowing the originally declared winners to retain their tickets.

“Some petitions were successful and resulted in corrections in a number of constituencies. Those that were not successful meant the candidates earlier declared winners remained in place. In a few cases, there were changes based on the outcome of the appeal process,” he added.

Morka noted that the petition process had been concluded and that the party’s current list represents its final position.

According to him, the list comprises candidates who emerged unchallenged during the primaries as well as those whose nominations were confirmed after the appeal process.

“We have moved beyond that stage. Those currently filling their nomination forms are either candidates who emerged without challenge or those confirmed through the appeal process. That is the party’s final position,” he said.

The APC spokesperson said the party’s immediate focus is to ensure that all its candidates complete and submit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Form EC9 before the commission’s deadline.

“Our priority now is to ensure all our candidates complete their INEC nomination forms and upload them to the INEC portal within the stipulated timeframe,” Morka stated.

He added that successful candidates had already received the necessary documentation and were working with party officials to ensure a seamless submission process.

Addressing concerns over the public release of the final list, Morka said the party considered compliance with INEC’s nomination requirements more urgent than publishing the names.

“Making the list public is not our immediate priority. We will release it in due course, but our focus right now is ensuring our candidates complete the necessary documentation and meet INEC’s deadline. That is more important at this stage,” he said.

Morka further maintained that there was no uncertainty within the party regarding its candidates, stressing that those who made the final list had already been notified.

“Our candidates already know who they are and have received their nomination forms. There is no confusion or tension within the party regarding the final list,” he said.
