Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin
The Kwara State House of Assembly has, in the past two years, considered a total of 25 bills and over 60 motions in a purposeful legislation which has positively impacted the lives of the people of the State.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, disclosed this during a plenary marking the 2nd anniversary in the life of the Tenth Legislature.
Rt. Hon. Engr. Danladi-Salihu affirmed that the House under his leadership has continued to sustain key democratic principles of transparency, equity and accountability while discharging its constitutional duties.
He said: “Records are there to show the gains of our purposeful legislation, which have greatly impacted positively the lives of our people within a spate of two years through concerted executive implementations.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the 10th Assembly has so far considered 25 bills, 62 motions, 16 matters of general and urgent public importance and 12 reports arising from various petitions received by the House.
“The significance of this anniversary, therefore, lies in the overall appraisal of our past legislative activities, which, expectantly, should equip us towards a better and seamless legislative chapter that we are about to open with more vigour, confidence and tenacity.”
The Speaker, however, commended his colleagues for their various people-oriented projects and activities in fulfilment of the campaign promises made to Kwarans, calling on them to be more conscious of the fact that their relevance in society would largely depend on the impeccable impact they make in improving the socio-economic lives of their constituents.
Rt. Hon. Engr. Danladi-Salihu also appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the prompt attention given to resolutions of the House anytime they are forwarded and for allowing the independence of the three arms of government to be firmly rooted in the State, which he noted are yielding positive results.
“The cordial relationship that exists between the arms of the government is really paying off in the state. We therefore look forward to more of this hand of fellowship from the governor in the coming legislative years,” he admonished.
The Speaker also gave kudos to the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Olayiwola Kareem, and other management team, as well as the staff of the Assembly for their commitment and dedication to work, which he noted contributed to the success of the Tenth Legislature.

Caught in the middle: Ortom’s silent dance between two camps.
There are growing questions about where Mr. Samuel Ortom, a former Governor of Benue State and a prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), truly stands politically ahead of 2027.
Ortom was a key figure in the divisions within the PDP before the 2023 general elections and was widely associated with support for Mr. Peter Obi, who finished third in that contest. More recently, however, he has publicly expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The latest discussion began after a visit by Mr. Peter Obi to Benue State. Reports indicate that a vehicle said to belong to Ortom was used to receive Obi at the Air Force Base airport in Makurdi. It is not clear who authorized the use of the vehicle, and Ortom has not commented publicly on the matter.
During the same visit, Obi was reportedly prevented from travelling to Yelewata, where he had intended to condole with families affected by violence. Obi’s team attributed the blockage to supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The Governor’s spokesman, Sir Tersoo Kula, denied any involvement by the Governor. He suggested the incident may have been staged to damage the Governor’s reputation, or that it could have resulted from disagreements within Obi’s own support base.
Ortom has not issued a statement clarifying his position on the 2027 elections or on the vehicle in question. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
