Jigawa bye-election: NSCDC deploys 700 personnel

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed no fewer than 700 personnel to ensure hitch-free bye-election in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Saturday.

reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, March 14, for a bye-election in the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa.

The election is to fill a vacuum created by the passage of Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Fagen-Gawo, member House of Representatives, who died in office on Dec. 31, 2019.

Shehu said that the personnel were deployed to polling units and collation centres in the area.

He said that others were stationed at strategic places to provide adequate security before, during and after the election.

“The personnel will work in collaboration with other relevant security operatives to provide security, protection of lives and property, and safety of materials for the conduct of the bye-election.

“The personnel are drawn from various departments and units in the State and Area Command respectively.

“Mobile and static patrol will be mounted at flash points. Effective intelligence gathering and dissemination strategy has already been unleashed to provide information throughout the exercise.

“Also, a standby team of armed personnel will be stationed at the collation centre in Babura to enhance security of both personnel and materials,” Shehu said.

The spokesman said that the state Commandant of the corps had also advised politicians in the state to warn their supporters against acts capable of causing breakdown of law and order during the exercise.

According to him, parents have also been advised to warn their wards to be law abiding during and after the exercise.

“Voters  are advised also be orderly and organised at polling units to ensure the success of the election,” Shehu said.
