2 docked over alleged theft of N473,500


The Police in Lagos, on Wednesday arraigned two persons before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of N473,500 belonging to their employer.
The defendants, Serifat Kelani, 22, and Abdul-Mumuni Kazeem, 20, whose addresses were not given, are facing a count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuiomose told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Sept. 24, at about 2:00p.m. in Ibereko community, Badagry area of Lagos state.
The prosecutor said that Kelani allegedly stole N373,500 belonging to her employer, Mrs Tunrayo Kareem, who is also the complainant.
He said that the two defendants also stole N100,000 belonging to the complainant, being the day’s sales from her shop.
Okuiomose said that the offence contravened section 287 and 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge against them.
The Magistrate, Mr Fadaunsi Adefioye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Adefioye said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation residing within the court’s jurisdiction, with evidence of three years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 5, for mention.
