Chukwuemeka, a 67-year-old man, who was arrested for ingesting cocaine, has revealed his motive for the crime. According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Chukwuemeka engaged in drug trafficking to raise enough money to marry a new wife and start a fresh life. He claimed to have spent 30 years in countries such as Brazil, Ethiopia, and Thailand. After losing his wife and having no children, he resorted to drug trafficking as a means to finance a new marriage.
Chukwuemeka was apprehended at the Ethiopian Airlines arrival section in Abuja, Nigeria, during a body scan that detected multiple drug pellets in his stomach. He excreted a total of 100 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.195kg in four separate excretions.
In another drug-related arrest, a 45-year-old woman named Bilkisu Bello was intercepted by NDLEA operatives at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano while preparing to board a flight to Saudi Arabia. She had swallowed pellets of cocaine and led the authorities to a house in Farawa, Kano, where 52 wraps of the illicit substance weighing 767 grams were recovered.
Additionally, NDLEA operatives, supported by security personnel, conducted raids and drug-related operations in various locations, including Jamestown, Ogunmakin in Ogun State, Edo State, and along the Bauchi-Gombe Road. These operations led to the arrest of several suspects and the confiscation of significant quantities of illegal drugs, including Indian hemp and tramadol capsules. Marijuana farms were also discovered and destroyed during these operations.
The arrests and seizures underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Nigeria to combat drug trafficking and related offenses.
