The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai executed a series of intensive air strikes in Suwa, Kala Balge Local Government Area (LGA), aimed at dislodging the remnants of terrorists in the Northeast and ridding the region of terrorists, insurgents, and other criminals still operating in Borno State.
Conducted in the early morning hours of September 11, 2023, in Suwa, the air strikes were carried out following recent intelligence reports indicating the presence of a significant concentration of terrorists in the area. These terrorists were believed to be planning attacks on patrol troops along major routes leading to Bama and Mafa LGAs.
Additional intelligence revealed that this same group of terrorists had plans to target troops stationed around Rann in Kalabalge LGA. Consequently, air strikes were authorized, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures. This significantly degraded their capacity to pose threats to both friendly forces and law-abiding civilians.
It’s worth noting that Suwa was previously a stronghold of Boko Haram Terrorists in the Gezuwa general area near the Sambisa Forest until it was dislodged by the military and other security agencies.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) expressed satisfaction that the collective efforts of various security agencies operating in the Northeast have yielded positive results. However, they emphasized the importance of sustaining the momentum and called for the support of all Nigerians in the ongoing efforts to clear the region of criminal elements.
The statement also reiterated the directive of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, which is unequivocal: “Stop at nothing in going after these criminals and ensure they are brought to justice. The era of treating them with kid gloves is long over.”
