Former Nigerian international and ex-coach of the men’s national U-17 team, Fatai Amoo, has thrown his support behind the newly appointed coach of the country’s cadet team, Manu Garba. Amoo, who led the Golden Eaglets in 2020, believes that Garba’s wealth of experience makes him the ideal candidate to rejuvenate the team, which has been without global silverware since 2015.
Having won the FIFA U-17 World Cup twice, first as an assistant coach in 2007 and then as the head coach in 2013, Garba’s credentials speak for themselves. Amoo is confident that Garba has what it takes to guide the Golden Eaglets back to international success.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) recently appointed Garba to replace Nduka Ugbade as the Golden Eaglets’ coach. Garba’s mandate includes preparing a new team for the upcoming WAFU B U17 Championship in Ghana next month.
Amoo expressed his belief that Garba’s experience will enable him to assemble and prepare a competitive team in a short timeframe for the tournament.
Echoing similar sentiments, former Golden Eaglets striker King Osanga, who played under Garba in 2007, praised Garba’s track record and leadership qualities. Osanga emphasized Garba’s past successes and expressed confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria to glory once again.
In related news, it has been reported that the Golden Eaglets’ camp is set to open today in Abuja as preparations begin in earnest for the WAFU B U17 Championship in Ghana next month.
