ANCOPSS Seeks Stakeholders’ Collaboration To tackle Examination Malpractices

The All Confederation of Principal of Secondary Schools ( ANCOPSS) has expressed concern over the worrisome level of examination malpractices in the Country, thereby calling on Stakeholders including Government, Education Ministry, Parents to stem the tide.

In a nine point Communique issued at the weekend and at the end of a five – Day National Conference of ANCOPSS in Asaba, Delta State, the Confederation noted with serious Concern that Examination which it said, Compromises the integrity of any examination, has become a major problem in the system, threatening the foundation of Secondary School System in Nigeria.

Recall that a guest Speaker, Pastor Benjamin Oyaole, Director, Bay -flowers Schools in Benin City, Edo State had in his lecture tittled’ Examination Malpractices: The Only way out’ blamed the thriving fraud on Parents who up until now patronize ” Miracle Centers” for their Children during School Certificate Examinations, regretting that the nonchalant attitude of these parents, has in no small measure, aided and abit the examination malpractices in most schools across the Country .
He said” For instance, I run a school in Benin City, and I am Pastor with Redeemed Christian Church, I can’t be seen in such dirty activities..All the teachers in my school are seasoned instructors who know their Jobs” warning that until Parents Join hands with the stakeholders to fight against examination malpractices, it will continue to spread wide unabated.

Speaking further Pastor Benjamin Oyaole said that ” “Miracle Centers” are not sanctioned by the government owned schools and WAEC is doing everything possible to mitigate or take drastic measures on these examination fraud Centers, disclosing that the emergence of miracle centers is a result of the desperation of Parents for their Children to pass examinations at all costs, adding that it has eaten deep into the fabric of various schools not teaching their students

He said that besides the state ministries, politicians should refrain from constituting themselves as Supervisors for external examinations in Secondary Schools while Principals should limit the involvement of the host Community, especially in the administration and management of Schools, and expressed the need to involve the school Principals in policy formation, among others as Critical Stakeholders
