Angry Mob Burnt To Death, Set Ablaze Motorcycle Of Handset Snatcher In Benue

Angry mob of Tse- Poor an outskirt of Makurdi township last Sunday burnt to death a suspected handset thief as well as set ablaze his motorcycle.

An eyewitness told our Reporter in Makurdi, that the suspected criminal who was on a motorcycle with some of his gang members had snatched the handset from its owner a resident of the area and was trying to escape with his accomplices when luck ran out his way.

The eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said while the rest escaped one of them who actually snatched the phone was caught by the youths who instantly melted jungle justice on him by burning him to death together with his motorcycle.

He decried the rising cases of robbery particularly in Makurdi the state capital, adding that one of his friend behind modern market also in Makurdi lost property worth millions of naira to the criminals who recently broke into his shop overnight and called on security agents to intensify surveillance to forestall future occurrence.

Reacting to the incident in an interview with journalists, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Benue Command SP Sewuese Anene condemned the practice where people take laws into their own hands by resulting to jungle justice instead of reporting an accused person to the police for necessary action.

She also advised youths to desist from taking to criminality by reaping where they did not sown, warning that any youth caught indulging in criminal activities would be punished.
