Justice M.T.M Aliyu of the Kaduna State High Court on Friday sentenced an applicant, Victor James, to five months imprisonment for stealing N200,000.

The Kaduna Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) charged James with theft.

Justice Aliyu, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

The judge, however, gave James an option of N50,000 fine.

He ordered the convict to pay the complainant N200,000, being money he stole and also write an undertaking to be of good behaviour.

Earlier, the EFCC Prosecution Counsel, Y.J. Matiyak, told the court that the convict stole N200,000 by redirecting a transfer from the First Bank account of the complainant, Paul Michael, to his account.

He stated that the complaint gave the convict his ATM card to help him withdraw some money and while at it, the convict transfered the N200,000 to his account without the complainant’s consent.

Matiyak said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 207 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
