Army arrest Five Criminal suspects in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Jalingo have arrested Five notorious criminals in 4 different operations across the State.

The Brigade Spokesman Lt Oni Olubudunde who disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Jalingo said that the operations were carried out following credible intelligence and diligent planning and investigations.

According to Olubudunde, Mr Joshua Dutse Idaho, a notorious gunrunner was apprehended with  PK Machine Gun, Quantity 399 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition and 3 AK 47 Rifle Magazines in Ibi town while on his way to Katsina where he was going to pick some AK 47 rifles.

He said that two other gunrunners Alhaji Adamu Damisa age  40 and Usman Isah age 44 who have been supplying arms and ammunition to criminals and are also into cattle rustling and other heinous crimes were apprehended in Mararaba Baissa in Donga local government area of the State with the sum of Six Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand Naira (664,000) which is proceeds from the illicit trade.

Olubudunde further disclosed that Mrs Janet Igohia, former wife to the Late Terwase Akwaza, a notorious criminal, was apprehended around Chnachaji, in Takum local government area of the state when she went to pick ransom money of One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira only. 

The statement said that Mrs Janet Igohia who is  currently married to another notorious criminal Voryor Gata, said that she was also previously married to another notorious criminal late Terkibi Gemaga AKA Mopol who was killed five years ago.

“In another development, troops of 20 Model Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base in Bali Local Government Area on 7 February 2024 arrested a suspected violent extremist named Malam Muhammadu Shuaibu age 50 who has been on the run. Preliminary investigation confirmed he is the same wanted suspect who absconded earlier after 3 Dane Guns were recovered from his residence at Dakka community through the help of his wife.

 

“The arrest of these criminals should also serve as a stern warning to all those involved in illicit arms trade and other criminal acts. The suspects and the exhibits recovered will be handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution in line with  extant laws guiding our operations.

“The Brigade is committed to ensuring the safety of citizens by dismantling all criminal networks operating in Taraba State.  Members of the public are urged to continue to support the military and other security agencies by giving credible and timely information on suspicious movements or activities of criminals  within the state” the statement concluded
