Troops from the 1 Division Nigerian Army have foiled a kidnapping attempt by a violent extremist group, rescuing abducted individuals in Tantatu Community of Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
In a statement released by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the operation unfolded following actionable intelligence received on Sunday at approximately 10:30 pm. Swiftly responding, troops tracked insurgents who had earlier raided the community and taken villagers hostage.
Engaging the insurgents in a fierce firefight, the troops exhibited unwavering determination, resulting in the successful rescue of 16 kidnapped victims.
Nwachukwu noted that the troops continue to comb the bushes, intensifying search and rescue efforts to free any remaining captives and thwart the insurgents’ activities.
Commending the troops for their bravery, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, lauded the successful rescue operation. He urged the troops to maintain vigilance as they press forward with counter-insurgency operations to secure troubled areas across the nation.
