In a disappointing match for Arsenal, they fell 2-0 to Liverpool, extending their goal drought and hampering their title challenge. Despite creating numerous chances, Arsenal failed to convert, and Liverpool capitalized on the counter-attack.
The Gunners’ lineup featured changes, with Aaron Ramsdale, Jorginho, and Reiss Nelson starting. Notably, Kai Havertz led the attack in the absence of Gabriel Jesus, and Jorginho played in the double pivot with Declan Rice.
Arsenal had early opportunities, with Reiss Nelson missing a clear chance, setting the tone for the night. Despite continuous pressure, Arsenal couldn’t find the net. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold had a warning shot hitting the crossbar.
The second half saw Liverpool growing into the game, but Arsenal had chances, especially when Martin Odegaard set up Havertz, and Saka missed a crucial opportunity. As Arsenal failed to capitalize on their chances, Liverpool seized control.
A pivotal moment came when Kiwior, under no pressure, headed the ball into his own net from an Alexander-Arnold cross. Despite Arteta bringing in fresh attackers like Emile Smith Rowe and Leandro Trossard, Arsenal couldn’t break through. Liverpool secured the win with a counter-attack, as Diaz scored a precise strike.
The match highlighted Arsenal’s profligacy in front of goal, with 18 shots, 12 inside the box, and four big chances resulting in no goals. The defeat marked Arsenal’s exit from a potentially winnable domestic competition and raised concerns about their goal-scoring woes.
The international break provides a chance for Arsenal to regroup before facing Crystal Palace, aiming to end their rut and revive their title challenge. The warm weather training during this break could prove crucial for the team’s recovery and preparation
