Former Arsenal and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has shared his emotional response to Victor Osimhen’s mention of him during the CAF Awards acceptance speech. Osimhen credited Adebayor and others for playing a part in his success story during the CAF Awards ceremony in Morocco where he was named Footballer of the Year. Adebayor, in an interview with the BBC, stated that he had been offering words of encouragement to Osimhen and did not realize the impact until the awards ceremony.

The former Togo captain confessed that Osimhen’s acknowledgment and gratitude moved him to tears, describing it as a moment that would stay with him for life. Adebayor, known for his resilience on the field, mentioned that it was even more beautiful than winning awards himself.

He commended Osimhen’s achievements and expressed confidence that if the young striker continues on his current path, he will win more CAF awards in the future. Adebayor was visibly touched by the recognition and appreciation from Osimhen, emphasizing the significance of the moment.

Victor Osimhen, having been named Footballer of the Year, is now a favorite to retain the award if he leads Nigeria to success at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. The Super Eagles are considered strong contenders for the championship, and their campaign begins on January 14
