By Milcah Tanimu

Barring last-minute changes, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is gearing up for another shot at Nigeria’s presidency in the 2027 elections. This announcement was made through Daniel Bwala, the spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.

Despite facing unsuccessful attempts in the past, Atiku’s spokesperson, Daniel Bwala, expressed confidence in his capacity, wisdom, knowledge, and energy, stating unequivocally that Atiku would “surely contest” again for the presidency. Bwala argued that Atiku possesses a unique understanding of the private sector, and a private sector-led economy is crucial for revitalizing Nigeria’s economy.

Atiku Abubakar has a history of six unsuccessful presidential bids, having contested in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and most recently in 2023. The revelation of his intention for the 2027 elections has also been linked to the ongoing internal strife within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Political analysts continue to observe how Atiku’s presidential ambitions contribute to the dynamics within the PDP.
