Atiku, PDP Senators, and Wike’s Allies Engage in Political Disputes

Before the Senate begins screening ministerial nominees, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, and his supporters are planning to disrupt the confirmation of ex-governor Nyesom Wike. Atiku conferred with party leaders in Abuja over the weekend, deliberating on methods to prevent the further weakening of the PDP and halt the Senate’s confirmation of Wike.

Sources reveal that PDP leaders are considering two strategies to obstruct Wike’s confirmation. They may either have PDP senators loyal to Atiku submit a petition or motion of urgent national importance requesting Wike’s disqualification. However, these plans may not succeed without the support of the Minority Caucus in the Senate.

Wike’s key supporters convened with some senators in Abuja yesterday to strategize their countermeasures against PDP’s plans. If these strategies are implemented, it’s anticipated to cause a commotion in the Senate. To prevent this, Wike might be among the first to be screened today to thwart any plans by Atiku’s camp. Wike, who previously endorsed and campaigned for Senate President Akpabio, may not face rigorous questioning and could be permitted to “take a bow and go.”
