“Atiku’s supporter claims Wike is undermining PDP for a 2027 presidential run.”

PDP stalwart, Pedro Obaseki, has alleged that the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, is aiming to weaken the party’s foundation to ease his 2027 presidential run. Drawing from his experience as the Director of Planning and Strategy for the PDP 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, Obaseki labeled Wike a ‘nobody’, asserting he only attained prominence due to the PDP’s structure and the support of its key members.

These comments came in light of Wike’s recent call to suspend Atiku from the PDP. Wike, during a Channels Television programme, cited issues of high-handedness and greed as reasons for PDP’s shortcomings. He further urged the National Working Committee to suspend key party figures like Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal to rebuild the party.

Obaseki countered Wike’s stance, suggesting that Wike’s primary goal is the presidency and he’s willing to diminish both PDP and APC to clear his path for 2027. Obaseki emphasized Wike’s perceived betrayal of trust throughout his political journey, referencing his conflicts with Uche Secondus and other party leaders.

Using examples of PDP leaders who defected due to conflicts with Wike, Obaseki underscored the divisive influence Wike holds within the party. He concluded by asserting that if anyone should be suspended from the PDP, it should be Wike.
