Attack On Benue Community Has Left 15 Persons Dead

Renewed hostilities on Ugboju community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected herdsmen has left not less than 15 Persons dead with scores sustaining various degrees of injuries while others are still missing.

Eyewitness account r Nigeria confided in our Correspondent, in Makurdi that the attackers who have been on a relentless mission for the past two weeks, invaded the village Wednesday evening killing their victims with droves now in distress and have as well deserted the community

The eyewitness who preferred anonymity said, many people are still missing, and search parties are actively combing the bushes for any remaining survivors.

Godwin Edoh, the member representing Agatu constituency in the State House of Assembly while reacting to the development in a chat with journalists, decried the fresh wave of killings, describing the development which he said was unprovoked as unacceptable.

“I’m frustrated as a representative of my people by their cries. I have forwarded all the gory photos of the bodies recovered to the WhatsApp lines of both the governor and his deputy.” Edo told newsmen calling on security agencies to mobilize their men to the affected communities to stop the killings.

Reacting to the killings, force commander Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS Major Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia, said the operation was in touch with stakeholders of Agatu community including community Associations.

He confirmed that 8 persons have been killed with scores sustaining various degrees of injuries while others are still missing, but assured that his men have been mobilized to the area and are on ground carrying out full operation to avert further tension.
