Attitudinal Change Necessary For National Development, Foundation Advises Nigerians
Foundation for Correction of Moral Decadence (FCMD) has called for attitudinal change among Nigerians to develop the country.
President Joseph Danley Obiechie made the call Wednesday day at the foundation graduation held in Abuja.
He said that the anti-corruption war was the best thing ever to Nigeria because the country was not progressing due to the menace of corruption.
“I think we should all do everything possible to collectively assist the president so that corruption would be fought head-on. Any corrupt country will never progress,” Obiechie said.
According to him, the norms and values in our society unfortunately are almost gone with the wind.
Obiechie noted that from the lackadaisical way issues are approached and the despicable way the citizens treat each other; moral decadence has permeated into all facets of the nation.
Attitudinal change is key to our livelihood. Let’s change our mind-set, especially in the performance of our civic responsibilities. When you perform your civic responsibility passionately, it makes your work easy. That is what this is all about. I found out that our prayers do not translate into how we behave in the performance of our civic responsibilities.
There is no time anybody has seen God. The God we can see is one another. We should treat each other with respect. Love is missing in our miss. The agape love that gives and asks nothing in return.
Those in the educational sector are the backbone of this nation. Without them, I can stand here to speak.
The orientation of the mind is very important because it deal with our children. Children are the leaders of tomorrow.
According to him, the way we handle our children is very important. We want to reorient the mindset of the teachers so that he or she can be able to handle them.
He calls for the assistance of the media, to spread the message to our leaders as it will help a great deal.
Rather than engage in such considerations, let us instead address very specific issues, focusing on those attitudes that are unfortunately still so rampant within our society and which are keeping us from attaining the quality of life that should be ours, especially considering the incredible resources, both human and natural, with which our nation is blessed.
He emphasizes the need to return to sound values which will make us prosper again as a nation and values are about morality.
A society that will develop and make significant advancement must have a certain number of people who will be dissatisfied and uncomfortable with things as they are, and be willing to commit their time and energies to doing something about it. They are the true leaders Nigeria is waiting for. The others will follow.
However, I would like to say that the fundamental attitudinal change we need in our nation right now is a moral one. If we continue to disregard and even despise those millions of Nigerians who are suffering because of the unjust system we are running children, young people, widows, the unemployed we will never attain sustainable development.
The nation will continue to inch our way forward, celebrating insignificant advancements; but even those will be seriously compromised by the price we will pay in terms of insecurity and constant restiveness in the country.
The worrisome developments in the country at this time, with drums of war starting to be beaten all over, also afford us a singular opportunity to check some of our attitudes to nation-building. Can a nation be built on inequality and injustice? Again, we look to the leadership of the nation to provide a sincere, well-reasoned approach to tackling these challenges.
“If nothing was done to halt these monstrous vices from devouring us, our country is doomed,” he said.
Earlier Mrs. Rekiya Muhammed Ibrahim, Director of the Administration Education Secretariat represented the Mandate Secretary, This is a kind of sensitization that has been ongoing for a while. We have been having it since 2022.
We are orientating the minds of our teachers, the school administrators, and other staff of the education secretariat to have a change of attitude towards their work.
We believe if we can have this sensitization for our school managers, administrators, and teachers, it can go down to our pupils and they will also have a change of attitude.
You know we are in the administration of renewed hope. We want this country to change for the better. There are a lot of narrative vices that are going on in society. We believe that this orientation will help them have a rethink of how things are being done which will be traced down to the students so that this nation can develop.
We urged them to pay attention and listen, and take home a positive attitude to change the way they do things and further impact the knowledge of their students because our youths these days are something else.

The 2026 Constitution Amendment Bill has moved to the state level following its consideration by the National Assembly, paving the way for state legislatures to consider the proposed amendments.
The development comes amid renewed attention on constitutional reform and ongoing discussions over proposed changes to Nigeria’s governing framework.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has defended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over allegations surrounding borrowing by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
House spokesperson Akin Rotimi Agbese, speaking in an interview with Channels Television, rejected claims that Wike had undertaken borrowing without the knowledge or approval of the National Assembly.
Agbese said the FCT minister could not independently create a sovereign borrowing obligation, stressing that public borrowing is subject to constitutional, statutory and administrative procedures.
“Wike has committed no infraction in borrowings. There is no basis for the allegation that he has been borrowing money behind the back of the National Assembly,” Agbese said.
He explained that borrowing to finance infrastructure was not unlawful where the required approvals and procedures had been followed.
“Borrowing for infrastructure development is not unlawful in itself, provided the prescribed approvals and procedures are followed,” he added.
The House spokesperson further argued that an increase in the FCT’s debt profile should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of illegal borrowing, citing the scale of infrastructure projects being undertaken in Abuja under Wike.
According to Agbese, the key issue is whether the appropriate approvals were obtained for specific borrowing transactions, rather than simply whether the FCT’s overall debt profile has increased.
The comments come as scrutiny continues over public borrowing, infrastructure financing and the legal procedures governing government debt at both the federal and sub-national levels.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its intention to contest the 2027 presidential election despite the decision of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The party said Wike’s decision was personal and did not alter its position to participate in the presidential election with its candidate, Senator Sandy Onor. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, made the clarification on Wednesday.
According to the party, a recent conversation between Wike and Onor should not be interpreted as a political negotiation between the minister and the PDP.
“He told Nigerians that Sandy is his friend. And they only had a friendly discussion within the umbrella of friendship. So, that is just a personal discussion between him and his friend,” Mohammed said.
He added that Wike’s support for Tinubu did not prevent the PDP from fielding candidates for the presidential, governorship and legislative elections.
Wike had earlier clarified that his support in 2027 was specifically for Tinubu’s presidential re-election and did not amount to an agreement that the PDP would withdraw from other electoral contests. He also said he never promised that the PDP would abandon its candidates for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.
“I said I will support the President from day one. I never told Mr President I will join APC,” Wike said.
The minister also maintained that his proposed Rainbow Coalition was not an arrangement with the All Progressives Congress (APC), but rather a platform through which politicians from different parties could mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The issue has generated disagreement with some APC governors, who have expressed concern about a political arrangement that could affect the party’s candidates at other levels.
APC Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Hope Uzodinma, said the governors would not support any alliance or arrangement that could weaken the APC or adversely affect its candidates.
Meanwhile, APC presidential campaign council spokesperson Ima Niboro has urged Wike and APC governors to end their public exchanges and concentrate on political mobilisation.
“When I said tone down the rhetoric, I do not mean stop working. Stop talking, go and work,” Niboro said.
He urged political leaders to strengthen their grassroots structures and engage directly with voters rather than continue exchanging statements in the media.
“All this shouting is not taking anybody anywhere. Go and work. Go and establish your authority on your political base,” he said.
