Efforts to ensure that they meet the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Meter Asset Provider Scheme (MAP),in order to address the metering gap in the power sector, BEDC have signed an agreement with five MAP parties.
The managing director, BEDC Electricity PLC, Mrs Funke Osibodu disclosed this while briefing newsmen in the company’s operational headquarters in Benin City recently.
She said that the MAP parties are expected to fast track further metering penetration in their coverage areas.
Osibodu solicited for the cooperation of electricity consumers in the ongoing enumeration exercise in its franchise states of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti states.
She said that the exercise is in compliance with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to all distribution Companies (Discos), towards improving accuracy in billing, improving quality of supply, prompt response to faults and also to ensure proper planning for network expansion.
She encouraged customers to cooperate with the enumarators who have been going round various locations in the four states by responding promptly to requests for completion of enumeration forms with a passport photograph, a utility bill for postpaid customers and vending slip prepared customers, including mobile phone number and email address, adding that this is also a prerequisite for metering.
BEDC boss also noted that within a period of 6 Months, about 49 communities without power supply in their coverage areas have been connected to the national grid with another 9 locations about to be connected.
She however identified vandalization of electrical equipments and molestation of BEDC staff as a major menace faced by the company .
In her words, “In Edo, 39 transformers and locations were vandalized in 2019, whilst we recorded several numbers in Delta. These two locations have been highest, though we have informed security agencies of the upsurge for investigations”.
