Buhari’s Failure To Visit Borno Angers Gov

Apparently making a veiled reference to President Muhammadu Buhari who has so far failed to visit Borno State since he assumed office as President, even in the face of the security challenges and the attendant travails, Governor Kashim Shettima said on Monday that those who judge him from outside were being uncharitable. A BBC Hausa service report monitored in Abuja quoted the Governor as speaking when he
received the Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who was in Maiduguri on familiarization tour, where he lamented the attitude of leaders who criticize him without coming physically to see things for themselves. The Governor said, he was
impressed and remains grateful to the Nigerian Police boss, whom he said behaved unlike those who make noise in Abuja, without visiting the state, stressing that his government is doing its best in the face of numerous challenges. Governor Shettima who has made several entreaties president Buhari to visit his domain was apparently angered by recent reports linking him with the theft of rice and relief materials donated to IDPs, even as he was said to have been irked by the Federal Government indictment of his Government over other sundry issues. Sources said the Governor had severally tried to use the instrumentality of his kinsman, the Chief of Staff to the President to make a headway for Buhari to forgive him may also have been angered by the President’s recent visit to Zamfara state where he
launched a military operation to confront cattle rustlers and arm bandits, but have refused to come to Borno. Sources close to the governor told us that, Buhari had earlier promised the Governor that he will take special interest in borno given her recent experiences, but have refused to visit the state since he assumed duty as President.
