The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has debunked claims suggesting the FCT Minister’s intention to raze 6,000 houses across 30 communities. This clarification was made public via a statement issued by the FCT’s Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye.
Furthermore, Ogunleye refuted allegations that the FCT Minister possesses a N300m armoured Lexus LX 600, explaining it’s merely a standard SUV. He asserted, “Both narratives are baseless and completely false.” The minister never specifically outlined which communities would see demolitions, nor the number of illegal houses targeted.
The statement elaborated, “The minister has always emphasized that only illegal settlements and structures will be removed, prioritizing the public’s best interest.”
Ogunleye emphasized the Minister’s history of prioritizing responsible urban development and public welfare, citing his tenure as the Rivers State Governor. He labeled the large-scale demolition reports as not only false but also incredible.
Another misleading report, suggesting the minister’s plan to revamp Abuja in just six days, was also dismissed by Ogunleye. He urged journalists and bloggers to ensure accuracy in their reports, emphasizing that false stories harm reputations and cause unwarranted public anxiety.
