Cleaner docked for alleged theft of bicycles

A 28-year-old cleaner, Wisdom Audu, who allegedly stole two bicycles worth N150,000, on Thursday, appeared before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja.

The police charged Audu, a resident of Jabi Daki Biyu, Abuja, with theft,  but he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr  Fabian Nwaforji, told the court that the complainant, Jennifer Osajimse of Ebetu Ukiwe Street, Jabi, reported the case at Jabi Police Station on Feb. 25.

Nwaforji alleged that, on Feb.19, the defendant, a cleaner at the complainant’s residence, stole two hype bicycles worth N150, 000 from  the complainant’s neighbour.

He alleged that during police investigation, Audu admitted to committing the crime.

The prosecutor said that one of the bicycles was recovered from the defendant.

According to him, theft contravenes Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Mr Mohammed Wakili, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

Wakili ordered that the defendant must provide a surety, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The judge adjourned the case until Sept. 6, for hearing. (NAN)
