Ahead of the 2023 general elections, politicians across the country have for the umpteenth time been cautioned against win-at-all-costs syndrome which has currently gripped the entire political space.
The Spiritual Father and Chairman, Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide AYO NI O, Baba Aladura Prophet Samuel Adefila Abidoye, gave the admonition while fielding questions from journalists at the International headquarters of the Church, Galilee Land, Orile Igbon, urging the politicians to play politics of maturity and put a stop to politics of assassination, kidnappings and character assassination.
The cleric, who condemned recent killings and kidnappings across the country as various political parties engaged in their party primaries to pick their respective flag bearers for the 2023 general elections, enjoined politicians to prioritise the development of their various communities, constituencies and the entire country above their personal ambitions.
He said: “The well-being of the masses, how the nation’s economy will grow and the citizens will be able to live happily should be your uttermost goal, rather than going after your perceived political opponents because you want power at all costs.
“There is no gain in sending assassins, hoodlums or kidnappers after your opponent’s life, this must stop so that we can witness a peaceful election in 2023.
“Politicians should be ready to accept defeat and cooperate with whoever wins in order to move the country forward, rather than engaging in politics of hatred, destruction and calumny.”
Abidoye, however, appealed to the electorate to go all out and get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to enable them to vote for their preferred candidates during the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
“Please participate in all the political processes for you to vote for the candidates of your choice without any compromise or sentiment,” he cautioned.
