An Upper Area Court in Kubwa, ordered that a 22-year-old artist, Joseph Abah, who pleaded guilty to cheating a Taxi driver, be remanded in a correctional centre, pending sentencing.
The Judge, Abdullahi Jibril gave the order after Abah pleaded guilty to criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating.
Jibril however adjourned the case until Nov.3 for sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, Akpai Aruwa of Idu Karumo, Abuja, reported the matter at Kubwa Police Station on Jan.27.
Olanipekun said that Abah engaged the complainant’s service being a driver, to drive him round Abuja metropolis for six hours at N2, 000 per hour on Jan.26.
He said while Abah was in the complainant’s Toyota Corolla car, he asked him for his cell phone valued N85, 000 in pretence to use the Hot spot Internet.
The prosecution counsel said Abah also asked the complainant to give him N25, 000 cash saying that he would transfer same to the complainant’s account.
He said Abah ordered the complainant to take him to Soul Lounge Kubwa and he escaped with the said items on arrival.
Olanipekun said that Abah used the complainant’s cellphone to make a recharge of N17, 000, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312, 308 and 322 of the Penal Code.
Abah who pleaded guilty begged the court for mercy.
