“Covenant, UI, and FUTA Lead Nigerian Universities in 2024 Rankings”

According to the 2024 ratings by Times Higher Education, Covenant University, the University of Ibadan (UI), and the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have achieved top rankings among universities in Nigeria.

Among the findings of the latest rankings, Covenant University has earned a position among the top 1,000 universities globally, falling within the global range of 801-1000. This private institution has claimed the number one spot in Nigeria.

Following Covenant University, the University of Ibadan secured the second position, and FUTA emerged as the third top-ranked university in Nigeria.

The University of Lagos and the University of Bayero rounded up the top five universities in Nigeria, taking the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The Times Higher World University ranking covers a comprehensive list of 1,904 universities spanning 108 countries and regions. It relies on a carefully calibrated methodology known as WUR 3.0, which evaluates an institution’s performance across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.

In addition to the aforementioned universities, other Nigerian institutions achieving top rankings in the 2024 list include the University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, University of Benin, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Port Harcourt.

Out of these top 15 universities, nine are situated in the South West region, two in the South East, two in the South South, one in the North West, and one in the North Central region of Nigeria.
