Portugal’s captain and Al-Nassr forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been suspended for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying game against Luxembourg. This decision follows Ronaldo’s yellow card in Portugal’s 1-0 victory over Slovakia on Friday.
Ronaldo’s yellow card came in a somewhat controversial incident where he caught former Manchester United teammate Martin Dubravka in the face with a stray boot. Despite the potentially serious nature of the incident, referee Glenn Nyberg decided to issue only a yellow card, and Ronaldo survived a subsequent VAR review.
The suspension is a result of Ronaldo accumulating three yellow cards during the European Championship qualifying campaign, leading to his absence from the match against Luxembourg.
