The dissolved executive council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has vehemently refuted claims of any alignment with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Members of the disbanded APC Executive, loyal to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, emphasized that they have not engaged in any agreement with Wike or any PDP affiliate in the state.
Chairman of the dissolved APC executive, Emeka Beke, addressed journalists in Port Harcourt, dismissing rumors of his departure from Amaechi’s camp following a viral video showing him in a friendly exchange with Wike at a recent event.
Beke clarified that the encounter occurred at the 60th birthday celebration of a club member, Isobo Jack, where he found himself in the same venue as Wike. He explained that he merely exchanged pleasantries with attendees, including Wike, out of courtesy.
Beke emphasized his unwavering loyalty to Amaechi, asserting that he remains committed to the former minister’s political family. He emphasized his reluctance to engage in political dealings with Wike due to differing ideologies and the need to uphold his integrity.
He clarified that his interaction with Wike was a social gesture, not a political alliance, reiterating his firm stance within Amaechi’s political circle.
Darlington Nwauju, the Publicity Secretary of the dissolved APC in the state, echoed Beke’s sentiments, urging the public to disregard the Tony Okocha-led APC Caretaker Committee. Nwauju argued that their tenure remains valid, blaming the party’s national leadership for prematurely dissolving it.
He pointed out that according to the party’s constitution, the National Working Committee lacks the authority to dissolve an elected executive. Nwauju criticized the decision of the national leadership, led by Abdulahi Ganduje, for prematurely ending their tenure and stressed that their tenure officially ends in October 2025, as per the party’s regulations.
