DSS Apprehends Suspended CBN Governor, Emefiele, on Terrorism Charges

In a surprising turn of events on Friday, the Department of State Services (DSS) successfully arrested Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), shortly after his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.

The decision to suspend Emefiele did not come as a shock to many, given the widespread criticism he faced for his alleged mismanagement of the nation’s monetary policies.

A statement issued regarding his suspension stated that it was prompted by an ongoing investigation into his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

With immediate effect, Emefiele’s suspension was announced by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Following the suspension, the DSS swiftly took action and apprehended Emefiele, purportedly for questioning. It is worth noting that the DSS had previously made unsuccessful attempts to arrest him before President Tinubu assumed office.

The arrest is based on accusations of Emefiele’s alleged involvement in aiding and abetting acts of terrorism. Further investigations are expected to shed light on these charges and determine the course of action going forward.
