In a significant development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended Mr. Godwin Emefiele from his position as the Central Bank Governor, with immediate effect. He has been instructed to hand over the responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) while an investigation is conducted.

The decision to suspend Emefiele comes in light of an ongoing investigation into his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector. The President has taken this action to ensure a thorough examination of the situation.

In a statement issued by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, it was announced that the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) would serve as the Acting Central Bank Governor until the investigation concludes and the reforms are implemented.

This move underscores the seriousness with which the government is approaching the matter and demonstrates its commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in the financial sector. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
