Egbewole mourns Akinkugbe’s matriarch

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commiserated with the family of the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University, the late Prof. Oladipo Olujimi Akinkugbe, on the demise of their illustrious Matriarch, Prof. Folashade Akinkugbe.

The Akinkugbe matriarch died last Wednesday (May 3,2023) at the age of 85.

Prof. Egbewole, in a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, described the death of Prof. Akinkugbe’s widow, who was also a former Director, Institute of Child Health, University College Hospital, Ibadan, as a colossal loss not only to her family but also to the nation and the entire humanity.

The Vice Chancellor recalled the wonderful contributions of the Akinkugbes to the progress and development of the University of Ilorin and the nation’s educational and health systems, saying that the late academic and medical practitioner was a strong pillar behind the series of successes attained by her husband at local, national and international levels.

Prof. Egbewole explained that the late amazon was also a superb scholar and administrator in her own rights, adding that hundreds of students and patients who passed through her tutelage and care, respectively, at the University of Ibadan and the University College Hospital, Ibadan as well as in other places where she served would never forget her impacts on their lives.

“On behalf of the staff, students and the entire University of Ilorin community, I sympathise with the family of our first Vice Chancellor on the death of his widow who had kept the home united and strong since her husband transited to the great beyond a few years back”, Prof Egbewole added.

The Vice Chancellor assured the Akinkugbe family that the University of Ilorin would not only identify with them at this challenging period but would also participate in the series of funeral activities that may be lined up in honour of their Matriarch.

Prof.Egbewole, while praying God to rest the soul of Prof Akinkugbe, urged the family of the deceased to take solace in the fact that she lived an exemplary life in the services of God and humanity.
