Two brothers, Samuel and Samson Ogoshi, have been sent to the US to stand trial for their alleged involvement in an international sexual blackmail scheme, which resulted in the tragic death of US teen, Jordan DeMay.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court passed the judgment, permitting their extradition.
The Federation’s Solicitor-General approved the final surrender order, allowing the Ogoshis, aged 22 and 20, to be taken to West Michigan.
Mark Totten, US Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, announced that the brothers’ arrest came as a result of a combined effort by the FBI and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The Ogoshis are now detained in Michigan.
Totten expressed his gratitude to the FBI and Nigerian authorities for their dedication to bringing justice in this cross-border sexual exploitation case. He revealed that both brothers were charged in May 2023 with offenses related to sexual exploitation, child pornography, and cyberstalking.
Furthermore, Samuel faces charges for the death of Jordan DeMay, 17, from Marquette, Michigan, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in March 2022. Prosecutors claim Samuel impersonated a young woman on a hijacked social media account to lure DeMay into sending an explicit photo. He then allegedly blackmailed DeMay with threats of releasing the image unless paid. Despite receiving $300 from DeMay, Samuel reportedly demanded more, and even when DeMay expressed suicidal intentions, Samuel’s response was callously encouraging.
Justice Nyako has mandated the brothers to face these charges in the US.
Highlighting the grave nature of sextortion, Totten warned offenders of relentless pursuit and assured victims of continued support and assistance.
