Gbagyi Villa Demolition: El-Rufai roll out bulldozers …As Security operatives shoot at protesters

The demolition exercise in gbagyi Villa community initiated by the Kaduna State Government resulted in a strong resistance from the affected residents, who took to the streets to confront the bulldozers.

As per an eyewitness, the women of the community blocked the roads while the youth resorted to throwing stones at the bulldozers in an attempt to halt the demolition process.

No loss of life has been reported at the time of compiling this report.

It is worth mentioning that the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development (KASUPDA) had obtained approval to proceed with the final phase of the demolition exercise, which affected various properties including those belonging to the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as Shittes. The demolition also encompassed the Gbagyi Villa residential complex, illegal structures at Kawo General Hospital, Polo Club, and other unauthorized constructions within the state.

Last week, the state government distributed notices regarding the impending demolition exercise to the affected individuals.

On Sunday, operatives of the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) demolished six structures belonging to followers of Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky, also known as Shi’ites, in different locations across Kaduna town and its surroundings.

In response to the protesters’ actions, security personnel began firing shots to disperse the crowd and deter further resistance.
