The House of Representative has called on the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Koyode Egbetokun among other security agencies to immediately deploy it’ personnel to Oke-Ako area of Ekiti state in order to forestall incessant security challenges in the state
Lawmakers in the House said redeployment redeployment of more security personnel to Ekiti North could prevent further attack on people urging them to ensure that perpetrators of kidnapping, banditries among other violence crimes are fish out and brought to justice.
These were resolution adopted by the House of Representatives yesterday when a lawmaker representing Ekiti North Ikole / Oye) Federal Constituency of the state, Hon Akin Rotimi moved a motion of urgent national important during plenary.
Hon Rotimi in the motion noted that there has been increase in criminal activities in Ekiti North 1 (Ikole / Oye) Federal Constituency in recent times adding that many criminal activities in the state have resulted in the lost of several lives and properties.
Hon Rotimi further informed the House that his constituency has been exposed to peculiar security challenges due to the nature of their forests and topography, stating that such activities have inflicted pain on Ekiti people as many Federal roads are dilapidated in the entire country.
The House also observed that just yesterday being Monday, January 29, 2024, some criminals elements carried out a dastardly attack in the Oke-Ako area under Ikole Local Government Area resulting in the death of two traditional rulers: the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti Oba Olatunji Samuel Olusola, as well as the Elesun of Esun Ekiti Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola while leaving a host of others with life-threatening injuries.
Members of the House have expressed shocked that such was not an isolated event as in in the past few days have experienced many criminal activities including the one where a commercial driver was killed between Ayedun and Ayebode by armed bandits.
The House explained that the late Onimojo was an intellectual and highly intelligent historian and orator who always spoke truth to power.
Lawmakers, therefore recalled how the late Elesun was a peace-loving king who was always interested in the development of Esun-Ayedun communities.
“There has been an incursion of murderous elements who parade themselves as herdsmen leading to heightened insecurity”.
The House further informed that the entire people of Imojo in Oye local government and Esun in Ikole Local Government and the entire state have been thrown into mourning on account of the loss of their highly revered traditional rulers who were forces for community development, peace, and stability in the constituency and the entire state”.
Cognizant that the Nigeria Army has a military outpost on the road, which has been non-functional, as they only patrol on Tuesdays, leaving the communities exposed for the rest of the days.
Meanwhile the House has directed the Ministry of Works and FERMA to immediately rehabilitate the Ayedun to Irele road, and other roads in the Federal Constituency.
Consequently, the house also urged the security agencies to put all measures in place to rescue the school children and teachers kidnapped in Emure Ekiti while mandating it relevant
Committee to ensure Legislative compliance and report back to the House for more legislative actions.
